Important Components of an Author Website

By Erin MacDonald-Birnbaum

One of the first things you should do after your book is scheduled to be published is to create an author website – a website dedicated to be all about you and your book! It should aid as your main informational hub – the single place that book buyers, fans and media who want to learn more about you and your work can visit. It will also lend itself as a great resource your book publicist can use to direct interested parties into finding out more information. While your website should certainly be a reflection of your personality and the subject matter of your book, in order for your website to be effective, it must contain some important components including:

• Author bio – make sure you have a comprehensive bio about yourself. Especially if your book is non-fiction, make sure you include your professional credentials, which reinforces your credibility to write on this subject matter.
• Links to buy the book – a link to where the book can be purchased should be located in the same place on every page of your website. Even if you have a preferred venue you would like the book purchased other than Amazon, make sure you always include Amazon as a place the book is available. It is a recognizable and trusted store.
• Downloadable links to your press materials, book cover and author headshot – make sure you have links where the media can download your publicity press kit and high-res jpegs of your book cover and headshot.
• Media page – As you or your book publicist begins promotion for you book, make sure to update your website with any upcoming interviews, book signings or events that have been scheduled. When possible, include video from any television interviews and audio to any radio interviews you did.
• Reviews and Testimonials – As you receive any favorable reviews for the book make sure to include them on your website. The same goes for any testimonials you receive for the book – this includes from other authors, fans, colleagues etc…
• Book Excerpt – include a chapter or short excerpt from the book. This will give people a taste of your great work.

Bottom Line: Your website first and foremost should be very user-friendly. Make sure each page on your website is navigable and easy to read. As you only have a few seconds to get someone interested in your book, the more inviting your website appears, the better your chances that person will be back for a “visit” again.

  1. MAGAZINE MAN , a slave to the sale is a new book by George Valentine. It covers a 17 year span of being in the door to door magazine business Authors Biography: This is a true story of a young kid who grew up poor and found a job that was worse than his abusive childhood. This kid grew up aging on the road in the ruthless door to door magazine business thinking it would be the job of his dreams only to find himself waking up in a nightmare. Living through gang type bosses, drug and alcohol abuse, murder, violence, sex and scandal it was a marvel that the young man made it out alive. Of course that young man was me nearly twenty years ago. And I wish more than anything that I had a book like this to warn me of the dangers involved but since there wasn’t I hope my story can help others and prevent others from falling into the Mag. Crew trap as I had. There are still many Mag. Crews out there on the road so beware!! The sad thing about it is however several magazine publishers support these corrupted gang like Mag. Crews. They only care about getting their cut of the profits. Think about this the next time you read a magazine or go to pick one up at your local newsstand. I have met many people in prisons just like mine all over the country. Many were great people trapped with no way out. I would still be one of them if I did not find Christ, who set me free from the chains that bound me. God bless and keep all who reads this book. For my mother Donna my father and entire family and all those who have given their lives for the Mag business Download free http://stores.lulu.com/magazineman
